This is the first post of this blog. I am hoping this site will be an opportunity for those of us who are parenting, or will in the future be parenting children of aboriginal ancestry and do not share that same ancestry with our child or children. While the primary focus will be for those who are non-aboriginal parents, there may also be parents who are aboriginal but not from the same community as their children and who may need information and support for some of the same reasons.
So if you are a parent, a member or resource of an aboriginal community, and would like to be involved in this blog please let me know. There's a question section off to the right of this post, and you can also leave a comment with contact information.

I am a metis person who has been waiting over one year to adopt an Aboriginal sibling group. I have had several proposals which have not worked out. Basically I feel that this is due to the lack of supports within the Ministry. The proper work is not being done upfront. There are so many aboriginal children in care waiting for homes.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping that this blog gets moving along. Might help with all the waiting that happens.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment. I agree, the waiting is difficult and with all the Aboriginal kids in foster care it seems even more frustrating. Any suggestions about what in particular are the barriers to placement, or supports that are needed would be helpful to know (to perhaps pass on to those who need to make the changes).
I am pleased to advise that December 18th - 20th will be having 2 children for a pre-placement visit. Hope and pray all is good. Ministry causing a little flack over the number of children. lol has to be something all the time.
